Education and community outreach are vital components of the AFI DALLAS International Film Festival’s mission and programming.
In addition to Q&A sessions and panels at the festival's venues, AFI DALLAS holds an annual series of Master Classes with internationally known filmmakers, composers, producers and actors at SMU, TCU and other area universities. Master Classes are also presented for high school students from all over North Texas.
Master teachers for these classes in 2007 included AFI DALLAS Star Award recipients Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Marvin Hamlisch, and Sydney Pollack, as well as other filmmakers and participants from throughout the Festival.
Supporting our mission of educating the next generation of filmmakers, short films from area universities and high schools will be presented in special screening sessions during the 2008 Festival.
AFI DALLAS is also proud to work with more than fifty Community Partners. These Partners represent other area film festivals, industry groups, cultural organizations and service agencies that the Festival collaborates with to provide access to screenings and special events for citizens from all walks of life.
Community, cultural and arts groups across the region welcomed and encouraged AFI DALLAS in its inaugural year and we thank them for their support and for allowing us, in turn, to support their good works in building a stronger, better community.
